Dentistry

At our clinic, we are committed to providing high-quality dental care in a safe, comfortable, and professional environment for both dogs and cats. Our experienced veterinary team offers a wide range of dental treatments using modern technology and evidence-based techniques to ensure the best possible outcomes for every patient.

Comprehensive Veterinary Dental Treatments

We provide a full range of dental treatments designed to maintain and restore your pet’s oral health. Dental disease is one of the most common conditions affecting pets, and early treatment can significantly improve comfort, health, and quality of life.

Each patient receives a thorough examination and an individualised treatment plan tailored to their specific needs.

Pre-Visit Medications for Stress Reduction

We understand that veterinary visits can be stressful for some pets. To help create a calm and positive experience, we may prescribe pre-visit medications for dogs and cats before their appointment.

These medications are given at home prior to the visit and help to:

  • Reduce anxiety and stress during transport and admission
  • Allow smoother handling and examination
  • Support a calmer recovery experience

Our team will provide clear instructions whenever these medications are recommended.

Pre-Anaesthetic Health Assessment

Before any dental procedure requiring anaesthesia, we perform a comprehensive medical assessment to ensure that each patient is safe to undergo anaesthesia.

This assessment may include:

  • Pre-anaesthetic blood testing to evaluate organ function, red and white blood cells, and overall health status
  • Urine testing to assess kidney function and detect underlying conditions
  • A full physical examination by the veterinarian

These tests help identify any hidden health concerns and allow us to tailor anaesthetic protocols specifically to your pet’s needs.

Intravenous Fluid Therapy

During dental procedures, patients will usually receive intravenous (IV) fluid therapy. This provides several important benefits:

  • Maintains hydration and blood pressure during anaesthesia
  • Supports healthy circulation and organ function
  • Allows rapid administration of medications if needed
  • Assists with a smooth recovery following the procedure

IV fluids are an important component of modern veterinary anaesthetic care and help maximise patient safety.

Digital Dental X-Ray Technology

Our clinic specialises in digital dental X-rays, which allow us to diagnose dental disease that cannot be seen during a routine examination. Because a large portion of the tooth lies beneath the gumline, dental radiographs are essential for identifying hidden problems.

Digital imaging provides several advantages:

  • High-resolution images for precise diagnosis
  • Immediate results to guide treatment decisions
  • Lower radiation exposure compared with traditional systems
  • Improved ability to monitor dental health over time
  • Routinely we radiograph teeth we are concerned about however full dental x-rays of your pets are always available (and recommended by request)

Oral Examination Under Anaesthesia

Once a patient is safely anaesthetised, we perform a complete oral examination under anaesthesia. This allows a detailed assessment of every tooth, the gums, and supporting structures.

Combined with dental radiographs, this examination enables us to identify problems such as:

  • Periodontal disease
  • Tooth fractures
  • Abscesses or infections
  • Resorptive lesions
  • Bone loss around teeth

Following this assessment, appropriate treatments are performed during the same procedure whenever possible.

Tooth Extractions

When a tooth is severely damaged or infected, extraction may be necessary to relieve pain and prevent further complications. Our team performs extractions using modern surgical techniques and added local anaesthesia  designed to minimise discomfort and promote smooth healing.

Pain management and careful monitoring are provided throughout the procedure.

Vital Pulpotomy

Vital pulpotomy is a specialised procedure used when a tooth’s pulp is exposed but still healthy, often following trauma such as a fractured tooth. By removing only the affected portion of the pulp and preserving the remaining healthy tissue, we can maintain the vitality and function of the tooth in some cases.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal treatment allows us to preserve teeth that would otherwise require extraction due to infection or trauma. The infected pulp is removed, the internal structure of the tooth is carefully cleaned, and the tooth is sealed to prevent further infection.

This treatment helps maintain normal tooth function while relieving pain.

Anaesthesia and Monitoring

Dental procedures in pets require general anaesthesia so that treatments can be performed safely and comfortably. At our clinic, anaesthesia is administered and monitored by qualified veterinary nurses and an experienced clinical team.

Throughout every procedure, our team continuously monitors patients using modern monitoring equipment and clinical observation to ensure safety during anaesthesia and recovery.

Admission and Discharge

For dental procedures requiring anaesthesia, pets are typically admitted to the clinic between 8:00 and 9:00 in the morning. This allows our team to perform a pre-anaesthetic assessment and prepare your pet for their procedure.

Most patients return home the same day, with discharges usually scheduled between 3:00 pm and 6.45 pm, depending on the procedure performed and the patient’s recovery.

Our team will provide detailed post-procedure care instructions and ensure you feel confident caring for your pet once they return home.

Post-Operative Revisit and Follow-Up Care

Following dental treatment, we schedule a post-operative revisit to review your pet’s recovery and discuss the procedures performed during the dental treatment.

At this appointment we will:

  • Explain the findings from the oral examination and dental X-rays
  • Discuss why specific treatments were necessary
  • Monitor healing if tooth extractions were performed
  • Ensure extraction sites and gums are healing appropriately

If teeth needed to be removed, we will carefully explain why those teeth required extraction and how the treatment benefits your pet’s long-term health.

Our focus is always on preserving as many healthy teeth as possible and maintaining your pet’s oral health. Healthy teeth and gums play an important role in your pet’s overall wellbeing, helping to prevent pain, infection, and potential effects on other organs in the future.

A Dedicated Veterinary Team

Our veterinarians and veterinary nurses work closely together to deliver compassionate, professional care for every patient. From admission through recovery and follow-up visits, your pet’s comfort, safety, and wellbeing remain our highest priorities.
